We stayed at the Thunderbird Inn in the past year, and I encourage them to remain at the El Tovar, if you can afford to do so. The hotel is located right on the edge of the canyon. If you have a view of the canyon be wonderful. But even if this is the case, they roll out of bed, get dressed, go down and there it is. The gorge is so incredible! We ate at El Tovar and if I ever have the opportunity to return, I would stay there. You have to plan well in advance to get a reservation there, but worthwhile.
